Free Audition Tips!!!
-
Know what the audition requirements are.
Have your teacher help you make an appropriate selection. Do not take a 2nd
violin part or the 3rd clarinet part of a work from your orchestra or band
folder as audition material.
-
Make sure your instrument is in good
condition, and if you are a reed player, that you have a reed which works
well. Be early. Warm up properly before going into the audition.
Dress appropriately. Jeans, shorts, and T-shirts do not help make a good
impression. Dress comfortably, but presentably.
-
Remember that you are being evaluated in
many ways in addition to your performance. Be straight-forward, respectful,
direct and friendly. Don’t be nonchalant, fearful or roll your eyes. Smile!
Focus. Don't think about mistakes you may have made in the music, or any
difficult passages coming up. Enjoy the music you are performing.
-
If the auditioners ask questions, answer
as best as you can. Look directly at the person to whom you are talking. Be
able to pronounce correctly the title and the name of the composer of the
music you are performing.
-
When you have finished and are excused,
smile and say, "Thank you."
-
Remember that those listening to you
want to make you feel comfortable and at ease. They are rooting for you –
they are on your side!
