Information in brief
Are you ready for the concert?
The following are things you need to do prior to the concert:
1. Check to make sure you have the proper concert uniform for your
group. Go over the check list to the left for your orchestra. The usual
mistakes are young ladies wearing short dresses and forgetting to wear black
nylons/socks. Young men forget to wear black shoes, socks and a bow tie.
2. Make sure all your music is together in your folder for the
concert. Take out any personal items in your folder before turning it in to
the librarian.
3. Be sure to take your instrument home from school on Thursday! There
is no school on Friday, November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day. Also, be
sure to pack in your music case any extra items you might need for emergency
i.e. extra strings or reeds.
4. Remind your family and friends to purchase their tickets by
Thursday, November 10 at the WCPA Box Office (753-8586). The Box Office is
closed for Veterans Day and Saturday. Last year many family members and
friends waited until the Sunday of the concert to purchase their tickets,
and there were nearly 100 people still in line at 4 p.m. at concert time.
Ouch!
Concert day:
1. Check your dress rehearsal time to the left and arrive early to
warm-up. ENTER THROUGH THE BACK STAGE DOOR (The door is in the back alley).
There will be signs to help you.
2. Do not bring valuables to rehearsal or leave your personal
belongings unattended.
Concert call time is 3:30 p.m. for all musicians. Debut, Academy, and Brass
Choir gather backstage. Conservatory sit in reserved seats in Mezz area
(second balcony stage right).
3. There are reserved seats for ALL SOGO MEMBERS and their conductors
in a designated area of the concert hall. Your conductor will help you to
your seats after your performance.
OUT OF RESPECT, WE ASK THAT ALL SOGO MEMBERS REMAIN FOR THE ENTIRE
CONCERT (approximate 2 hours and 15 minutes) TO LISTEN TO EACH GROUP’S
PERFORMANCE. THANK YOU.
Student Representation
Because SOGO is a student organization, musicians have an
important voice on how SOGO functions. Elections for student offices
are held at the 2nd fall rehearsals of each season.
Responsibilities:
Elected representatives are required to attend a student
board meeting on the third Wednesdy of each month. Representatives
will discuss issues for presentation to the SOGO board meeting, and plan
parties or other events.
Elections:
Candidates for office are requested to do the
following:
1st Rehearsal: Sign-up sheets will be posted at the
rehearsal site.
2nd Rehearsal: Prepare and give a 1-2 minute speech
on why you should be elected as a student representative.
Voting: Voting will be by secret ballot.
Eligibility: Must be a musician in the Academy, Debut, or
Conservatory Orchestra.
